About the Founder

Ian Coulson – Founder and Director

I am a very recently retired (April 2021) primary headteacher in Cheshire East, in a primary school rated ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED. Previously, I was a headteacher in two other schools in two other Local Authorities. Whilst working 4 days as a headteacher, on the fifth day, I also worked as a school adviser and school improvement partner for several schools, in several authorities, in the North-West of England.

What do I do?
  • I am continuing to work with schools as an adviser or SIP, and will offer bespoke support to schools for this work.
  • I have been running training courses successfully for a number of years, and during this summer (2023) term I have delivered training courses on-line and face-to-face for deputy heads and subject leaders, focusing on preparing for OFSTED inspections. Currently, schools are booking for on-site training, especially for subject leadership.
  • I have led many courses for senior primary school leaders and governors on interpreting the Inspectors’ Data Summary Report (IDSR) and Assessing School Performance (ASP). In my experience, anyone can analyse the data but it is the implications for school development and how OFSTED or the DFE would see it, that I am asked to address for headteachers or governors.
  • I now have my own consultancy, and will give first class service to headteachers, senior leaders, subject leaders, teachers and governors, drawing upon my experience as a successful headteacher, former OFSTED inspector, School Improvement Partner, adviser and course leader.

“Ian is inspirational and whilst navigating us through the minefield of education, he still managed to lift us up and celebrate the important role we have.”
